Goan Fish Curry Recipe
Goan Fish Curry is a flavorful and aromatic dish originating from the Indian state of Goa. Made with a blend of spices and coconut milk, this dish is characterized by its delicate balance of sweet, savory, and spicy flavors, with a hint of tang from the tamarind. Fish, usually kingfish or pomfret, is the main ingredient in this dish, simmered in a rich and aromatic sauce to create a delicious, filling meal.
Ingredients
- 1 lb fish fillets
- 1 Onions finely chopped
- 2 cloves garlic minced
- 1- inch ginger minced
- 2 tbsp Oil
- 2 tsp Red Chilli Powder
- 2 tsp cumin powder
- 2 tsp coriander powder
- 1 tsp turmeric powder
- Salt and pepper to taste
- 1/2 cup coconut milk
- 1 tsp tamarind paste
- coriander leaves / cilantro chopped, for garnish
Instructions
Pre-Cooking prep steps
- Cut the fish fillets into small cubes, and keep it aside.
- Heat the oil in a pan over medium heat.
- Add the onions, garlic, and ginger and sauté until the onions are translucent.
Cooking steps
- Add the red chili powder, cumin powder, coriander powder, turmeric powder, salt, and pepper. Cook for about 5 minutes.
- Add the cubed fish and stir well. Cook for about 5 minutes or until the fish is cooked through.
- Add the coconut milk and tamarind paste and stir well. Cook for about 10 minutes or until the sauce is thickened.
- Remove from heat and garnish with fresh cilantro.
- Serve the hot Goan Fish Curry with rice.
