Apple jam, also known as apple jelly, is a sweet spread made by cooking apples with sugar and sometimes spices. The apples are mashed or pureed to create a smooth, spreadable consistency, and the mixture is simmered until it thickens and reaches the desired consistency. The resulting spread is sweet, fruity, and perfect for spreading on toast, scones, waffles, or using as a topping for ice cream, pancakes, and more.
Assemble all ingredients together to avoid last minute rush.
Rinse all apples and then peel them. Now, roughly chop them and remove all seeds from them.
Squeeze juice from the lemon in a Bowl and keep the lemon skin as well for further use.
Sterilize your Airtight Container / Jar as mentioned above.
Place a plate in the fridge for testing.
Cooking
Take a heavy bottomed Pan or Cookpot and add all chopped apples in it. Start cooking them over low to medium flame for 1-2 minutes.
Now, add sugar, lemon juice and lemon skin into the Pan and bring the mixture to a boil over medium flame. Stir occasionally and cook for 15-18 minutes more.
Now, add cinnamon powder and nutmeg powder to the mixture and mix well.
Switch off the flame and discard lemon skin from the Jam.
Now, drop a little Jam onto the chilled plate (kept in fridge) and push your finger through it. It should wrinkle and looks like a jam. If it doesn't, boil for 2 mins more and test again.
Stir well once it's cool down.
Pour into the sterilized Jars and seal with the lids. Store in fridge once opened. It can last up to 6 months.
Natural Preservative: Use only untreated/pesticide free lime/lemon because the whole lemon halves are used to cook up the jam as it provides natural pectin.
Storage: Store jam in a dry, cool and dark place. Once you open the jars, store in the fridge. Only use sterilized jars when making any jam.
