Ingredients
  

  • 1 cup Besan / Gram flour
  • 2 onions
  • 2 tbsp Besan / Gram flour
  • ¼ cup water
  • ½ tsp turmeric powder
  • ¼ tsp coriander powder
  • ¼ tsp carom seeds
  • ¼ tsp Red Chilli Powder
  • ¼ tsp Asafoetida / hing
  • 1 tsp salt
  • ¼ tsp garam masala
  • ¼ aamchur / dry mango powder
  • 1 tsp chaat masala

Instructions
 

Preparation

  • Assemble all ingredients together to avoid last minute rush.
  • Cut onion into medium thick rings.

Cooking

  • In a Mixing Bowl, add onion rings and 2 tbsp gram flour. Mix them properly so that onion rings are coated well with gram flour.
  • Then, in another Mixing Bowl add gram flour, water, salt, turmeric powder, garam masala, dry mango powder, red chilli powder, carom seeds, coriander powder, asafoetida and mix properly to make smooth slightly thick batter.
  • On the other hand, heat oil for frying in a deep Kadai over medium heat.
  • Once, oil is hot enough, add one by one the coated onion rings in the batter and coat them properly with the batter.
  • Deep fry them in medium hot oil until golden brown and crispy.
  • Remove all the fried onion rings on an absorbent paper.
  • Sprinkle some chaat masala and your Onion Ring Pakora is ready to serve!
  • Enjoy with green chutney or tomato sauce and a cup of hot masala tea.

  • Salt & Spices: Feel free to adjust salt and spices as per your taste preferences.
  • Oil for frying: Use any neutral tasting oil for frying. In India, mustard oil is most preferred oil for frying pakoras.
  • Chaat Masala: Chaat masala is optional for adding more flavor.
  • Batter: Do not make very thin batter for the recipe. Keep it in thick consistency for best results.
  • Carom Seeds: Carom seeds / ajwain help in better digestion.
