Step by Step Instant Pot Maa Ki Dal Recipe
Instant Pot Maa Ki Dal Recipe
Ingredients
- 1/2 cup black lentils / sabut urad dal
- 3 tbsp ghee / clarified butter / ghee
- 2 onions
- 3 to Tomato
- 2 green chillies
- ½ tsp Cumin (Jeera)
- 1 bay leaf / tej patta
- 10 cashew
- ½ inch ginger
- 3 cloves garlic
- 1 tsp Red Chilli Powder
- ½ tsp Garam Masala
- 1 tsp salt
- ½ tsp turmeric powder
- ½ tsp coriander powder
- water
- coriander leaves / cilantro
Instructions
Preparation
- Assemble all ingredients together to avoid last minute rush.
- Rinse and soak sabut urad dal or black lentils in plenty of water overnight.
- Finely chop onion, ginger, garlic, green chillies and fresh coriander leaves.
- Make puree with 3 large tomatoes and cashews.
Cooking
- Set IP on saute mode and add ghee first.
- Then, add cumin and bay leaf and then, chopped ginger and garlic. Saute them for few seconds.
- Then, add chopped onion, green chillies and tomato puree.
- Then, add all spice powders and saute everything well until onion and tomato puree cooked well with spices.
- Now, add the soaked and drained lentils, salt and close the IP.
- Cancel saute mode and press pressure cook or manual mode. Set time for 35 minutes.
- Once done, let pressure release naturally for 10 minutes.
- Check the consistency. Simmer again in saute mode if required to thicken the dal for another 5-10 minutes.
- Your Maa ki Dal is ready to serve!
