Ingredients
  

  • 1 cup Chickpeas chole/garbanzo beans, soaked overnight
  • 2 tbsp oil
  • 2 Onions finely chopped
  • 1 inch ginger grated
  • 2 cloves garlic finely chopped
  • ½ cup tomato puree
  • Salt
  • pinch Asafoetida / hing
  • 1 tsp Garam Masala
  • 1 tsp Pomegranate Powder
  • 1 tsp Red Chilli Powder
  • ¼ tsp turmeric powder
  • 2 cups water
  • 1 tsp coriander powder
  • 1 tbsp kasuri methi / dry fenugreek leaves (optional)

Preparation

  • Assemble all ingredients together to avoid last minute rush.
  • Soak chickpeas overnight or at least for 6-7 hours. Then, drain the water and keep it aside.

  • Finely chop onions, garlic cloves.
  • Grate the ginger and make tomato puree from the tomatoes if tomato puree is not there.

Cooking

  • Press SAUTE button on your Instant Pot and add oil.
  • After a minute or two, add onions, grated ginger and garlic. Saute until onions turn light brown for about 6-7 minutes.

  • Then, add tomato puree, cumin seeds, asafoetida, salt, red chili powder, coriander powder and turmeric powder. Saute for another 2-3 mniutes until all spices get fragnant.
  • If you are using chana masala powder, add at this step or if using garam masala, add at the end.
  • Now, add soaked chickpeas and water. Stir well.

  • Close the lid of Instant Pot and turn the pressure valve to the SEALING position. Select the PRESSURE COOK/MANUAL at high pressure setting and cooking time to 30 minutes.
  • Once the pot beeps, let the pressure releases naturally.
  • Remove lid of the pot and add garam masala, anardana powder and dried fenugreek leaves.
  • Garnish with cilantro or coriander.
  • Serve with paratha, naan or bhatura.
