Step by Step Aloo Matar Recipe
Aloo Matar Recipe
Ingredients
- 4 potatoes
- 1 cup Green peas
- 1/2 inch ginger
- 2 green chillies
- 2 tbsp oil
- 1 tbsp salt
- 1/2 tbsp coriander powder
- 1/2 tbsp Red Chilli Powder
- 1/4 tsp turmeric powder
- 1 tsp Cumin (Jeera)
- 1/2 tsp aamchur / dry mango powder
- pinch Asafoetida / hing
For garnishing - optional
- coriander leaves / cilantro
Instructions
Preparation
- Assemble all ingredients together to avoid last minute rush.
- Peel and wash potatoes. Chop them into small cubes.
- If using fresh peas, peel and wash them as well .
- Wash and finely chop green chillies, ginger and fresh coriander leaves.
Cooking
- Heat oil in a Kadai or Frying Pan over medium flame and add cumin and asafoetida. Let cumin crackles.
- Then, add cubed potatoes, chopped ginger and salt. Do not add other spices at this point. Sprinkle little water from top and cover the Kadai with lid. Let the potatoes cook 80% over low flame.
- Now, add turmeric powder, coriander powder, chopped green chillies and red chilli powder and mix well. If using fresh peas, add them at this step. Mix very well and cover with lid. (If required, add splash of water)
- Now, potatoes are cooked well and coated well with spices. If using frozen peas, Microwave them for 2 minutes on high, drain water and add at this step. Mix well.
- Add dry mango powder and cook for another 2 minutes and switch off the flame.
- Optionally, garnish with chopped fresh coriander leaves.
- Your Dry Potato Peas Curry is ready to serve!
